Get started with oil painting or take your work to the next level with this combination plein air and studio class. Each week we’ll start with a lesson designed to build your knowledge and improve your painting skills. There will be demos and exercises, and students will have plenty of time to work on their own paintings with instructor feedback.
Depending on the weather and the topic for the week, classes will either meet outdoors for plein air studies, or in the studio at Suntan, where we’ll work from photos or stiff life setups. This class is suitable for all levels.

Create a dramatic, light-filled impressionistic landscape or seascape painting, indoors or outdoors without having to draw. Learn theory & practice in 5 easy steps to create your painting and achieve beautiful results in a single painting session. Paint in oils or acrylics. Suitable for beginning or intermediate painters
Class fee includes 4 weekly 2.5 hour sessions; 2 time slots to choose from:Tuesdays 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM or Tuesdays 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM
Double sessions are available on Tuesdays on a week-to-week basis. A student who has already paid for 4 sessions can join the afternoon session for an additional fee of $35 per session.

​"Embracing Watercolors" is the perfect first class if you've never tried watercolors or are just beginning. The lessons are intended to give you a full overview of the medium, generate some excitement about the magic of watercolors, and build your basic skillset.

My name is Laurie Edwards and I live in South Pasadena with my husband. I started watercolors two years ago and am excited to share my passion and knowledge with other students. I have gathered so much information from a beginner’s viewpoint that I want to provide an introductory class at a reasonable price. ​

This class explores art journaling as a therapeutic outlet for expressing and processing emotions and fostering a sense of peace and connection to oneself. Through enjoying this class, one can reduce stress, ground themselves and establish a calming practice that enhances mental wellbeing. In this class a variety of techniques are taught and a plethora of supplies are provided so that one can come in and revel in the experience.

- One spiral bound notebook, preferably mixed media paper 6 x 8 1/2 or larger
- Greeting cards, thank you cards, hand written notes of support and gratitude, love notes, any special momentos, etc.
